Zenit Acts Wisely, Holding Serious Games With Foreign Teams — Moore
Russian Clubs Look for Sparring Partners
The head coach of Zenit St. Petersburg, Dick Advocaat, spoke about the importance of holding friendly games during the winter break. According to the specialist, the team needs such practice, as it will allow it to reach its optimal form at the start of the new season.
Aiming for European Success
Advocaat is set on making a good showing in the Europa League. "Zenit intends to perform successfully in this tournament, so we need to take every opportunity to improve our preparation," he said. The Russian Premier League is set to recommence on March 5, after which Zenit will play Real Betis in the Europa League Round of 16.
Strengthening the Roster
During the winter transfer window, Zenit strengthened its defense with the signing of Robert Renan. The 19-year-old Brazilian center-back has already impressed with his performances for the Russian champions. "There are other players that we're targeting, but we'll discuss that later," Advocaat revealed.
Balancing Domestic and European Commitments
"This decision was made after a thorough analysis of the situation. We understand that we have to balance our domestic and European commitments, and this is the best way to do it," Advocaat said.
Preparations for the New Season
The Russian team has already played two friendly matches this winter. They began with a 3-1 victory against Serbian club Radnički Niš, followed by a goalless draw against Partizan. "We will continue to hold friendly games throughout the winter break. We still have a long way to go before we reach our optimal form," Advocaat stated.
