Uruguay's World Cup Hopes in Jeopardy Following Draw With Colombia
Uruguay's World Cup Hopes in Jeopardy
Uruguay's World Cup hopes are in jeopardy following a disappointing 0-0 draw with Colombia on Tuesday.
The result leaves Uruguay in fifth place in the South American qualifying group, outside the automatic qualification spots. With just two games remaining, Uruguay will need to win both of their remaining matches and hope other results go their way in order to qualify for the World Cup.
Uruguay's performance against Colombia was poor.
They created very few chances and were fortunate to escape with a point. Colombia, meanwhile, were the better side throughout and will be disappointed not to have won the game.
Uruguay's next match is against Peru on Friday.
They will need to win that match and then hope that Ecuador lose to Paraguay in order to have a chance of qualifying for the World Cup. However, even if Uruguay win their remaining two matches, they could still miss out on the World Cup if other results go against them.
Uruguay's hopes of qualifying for the World Cup are now hanging by a thread.
They will need to produce much better performances in their remaining matches if they are to have any chance of reaching Qatar.
