Ukraine’s parliament adopted a resolution seeking to put sanctions on Verkhovna Rada People’s Deputy of Ukraine Andriy Derkach
The resolution, which passed with 327 votes in favour, instructs the government to impose sanctions on Derkach for his alleged involvement in Russian interference in the 2020 US presidential election
The US Treasury Department has already sanctioned Derkach, accusing him of being a Russian agent who has “sought to influence the 2020 US presidential election by spreading disinformation and interfering with US electoral processes”
The resolution adopted by the Verkhovna Rada calls on the government to impose sanctions on Derkach’s assets, as well as to ban him from entering Ukraine
The resolution also calls on the government to investigate Derkach’s alleged involvement in Russian interference in the 2020 US presidential election
The US Treasury Department has already sanctioned Derkach, accusing him of being a Russian agent who has “sought to influence the 2020 US presidential election by spreading disinformation and interfering with US electoral processes”
The US Treasury Department’s sanctions freeze Derkach’s US assets and prohibit US citizens from doing business with him
The US Treasury Department’s sanctions also target Derkach’s wife and two of his associates
The resolution adopted by the Verkhovna Rada is a sign of Ukraine’s commitment to fighting Russian interference in its affairs
The resolution also sends a strong message to Derkach and other Russian agents that their actions will not be tolerated
