Russian soldier from Yakutia cut off his own leg and survived after 17 days in a trench
A 21-year-old soldier from the Russian republic of Yakutia made headlines after he cut off his own leg and survived for 17 days in a trench. Arkady Moiseyenko was a private in the Russian Armed Forces serving in Ukraine when he was injured on March 17.
He was part of a group of soldiers who were attacked by Ukrainian forces near the town of Izium. During the attack, Moiseyenko was hit by shrapnel in his leg. The wound was so severe that the bone was shattered and the blood vessels were severed.
Moiseyenko's comrades tried to help him, but they were unable to stop the bleeding. They were also under heavy fire from the Ukrainian forces and were forced to retreat.
Moiseyenko was left alone in the trench with a life-threatening injury. He knew that he would not be able to survive for long if he did not stop the bleeding. He made the difficult decision to cut off his own leg.
Using a knife, Moiseyenko cut off his leg below the knee. He then used a tourniquet to stop the bleeding. He then spent the next 17 days in the trench, surviving on rainwater and whatever food he could find.
On April 3, Moiseyenko was finally rescued by Russian forces. He was taken to a hospital in the city of Belgorod, where he received treatment for his injuries.
Moiseyenko's story is a remarkable example of human resilience. He faced incredible odds and managed to survive against all odds.
