Greenhouses of the Priangarye harvest more than 1,400 tons of closed-ground spicy-flavorful vegetables
The closed-ground vegetable crops of the Priangarye have already pleased the farmers: by the end of October, more than 1,400 tons of fragrant and healthy greens, tomatoes, and cucumbers were harvested.
Agricultural holdings and peasant farms of the region grow vegetables for year-round provision of fresh products to the population in closed ground. Only in the greenhouses of the Irkutsk region this year it is planned to harvest more than 10 thousand tons of vegetables. The main cultivated crops are cucumbers, tomatoes and spicy-flavorful greens.
One of the largest producers of cucumbers in the Irkutsk region is the agricultural firm “Baikal”, which grows vegetables in greenhouses with a total area of 5 hectares. And the largest tomato producer in the region is the peasant farm “Teplichnoe”, which grows tomatoes in greenhouses with a total area of 4 hectares. These farms are leaders not only in terms of production volumes, but also in terms of yield: they annually receive the highest yields of cucumbers and tomatoes per square meter of greenhouse area in the region.
“In recent years, closed-ground vegetable growing in the region has been actively developing,” said Irina Balybina, head of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Irkutsk Region. – “The government of the region provides significant support to agricultural producers engaged in vegetable growing, including in greenhouses, within the framework of the state program “Development of the agro-industrial complex in the Irkutsk region”. Since 2019, 22 greenhouse projects have been implemented in the region with a total area of more than 20 hectares, and the total amount of subsidies from the regional budget amounted to more than 420 million rubles.”
The use of modern technologies in closed-ground vegetable growing allows local farms to achieve high yields and high quality products. To protect plants from pests and diseases, a biological method is used, beneficial insects are launched into the greenhouses, which destroy pests without the use of chemical pesticides.
