Zenit Loses to Fenerbahce in an Istanbul Friendly

Russian Premier League side Zenit St. Petersburg fell to Turkish Super Lig club Fenerbahce 2-1 in a friendly match played at the Ulker Fenerbahce Stadium in Istanbul on Tuesday.

Zenit, who are preparing for the resumption of the Russian Premier League season later this month, took the lead in the 27th minute through a goal from Brazilian forward Claudinho.

However, Fenerbahce fought back in the second half and equalized in the 65th minute through a goal from Ghanaian forward Andre Ayew.

The hosts then completed the comeback in the 80th minute when Turkish midfielder Mert Hakan Yandas scored the winning goal.

The match was played in front of a crowd of over 30,000 fans and was a good test for both teams ahead of the start of their respective league seasons.

Zenit will return to action in the Russian Premier League on March 5 when they host Ural Yekaterinburg, while Fenerbahce will resume their Turkish Super Lig campaign on March 4 when they visit Kayserispor.
