LUSAKA, Zambia (AP) — Fashion Sakala scored in the final minute of regulation time as Zambia shocked Ivory Coast 3-2 in the opening match of the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.
Wilfried Zaha and Sebastien Haller put Ivory Coast in front twice, but Zambia rallied both times through goals from Patson Daka and Sakala.
The winning goal came in the 90th minute when Sakala controlled a long pass and fired low into the corner of the net.
In the other Group E match, Egypt and Cape Verde drew 1-0.
Hosts Cameroon, Senegal and Morocco also won their opening matches in the tournament.
Cameroon defeated Burkina Faso 2-1 in Yaounde, with Vincent Aboubakar scoring the winning goal in the 90th minute.
Senegal beat Zimbabwe 1-0 in Bafoussam, with Sadio Mane scoring the only goal of the game in the 90th minute.
Morocco defeated Ghana 1-0 in Yaounde, with Achraf Hakimi scoring the winning penalty in extra time.
The Africa Cup of Nations is the premier football tournament in Africa and is held every two years. The tournament is being held in Cameroon from January 9 to February 6.
