Yury Zhirkov doesn't see himself as a head coach yet
The former Russian international is currently working as an assistant coach at Zenit Saint Petersburg
Yury Zhirkov has said that he does not see himself as a head coach yet, despite having recently completed his UEFA Pro Licence.
The former Russian international is currently working as an assistant coach at Zenit Saint Petersburg, and he has said that he is enjoying his role.
Zhirkov said:
"I am not ready to be a head coach yet. I need more experience. I am still learning and developing as a coach, and I think that I can do that best by working as an assistant coach for now."
Zhirkov played for a number of top clubs during his career, including Chelsea, Bayern Munich and CSKA Moscow.
He won the Premier League title with Chelsea in 2006 and the Bundesliga title with Bayern in 2013.
Zhirkov also played 105 times for Russia, and he was a member of the squad that reached the semi-finals of Euro 2008.
After retiring from playing in 2021, Zhirkov joined the coaching staff at Zenit Saint Petersburg.
He has been working as an assistant coach to Sergey Semak, and he has helped the team win the Russian Premier League title in 2021 and 2022.
