Zhirkov: “I don’t see myself as a head coach”
Russian midfielder Yuri Zhirkov has said that he does not see himself as a head coach yet. The 39-year-old is currently without a club after leaving Khimki in the summer. He has been linked with a number of coaching roles, but he says that he is not ready for that yet.
“I don’t see myself as a head coach yet,” Zhirkov said. “I need to gain more experience first. I want to learn from other coaches and see how they work. I think I can be a good coach one day, but I’m not ready for that yet.”
Zhirkov has a wealth of experience as a player. He has played for some of the biggest clubs in Russia, including CSKA Moscow, Zenit Saint Petersburg and Spartak Moscow. He has also played for the Russian national team on 105 occasions.
Zhirkov is currently studying for his coaching license. He will receive his license on Friday.
