The Russian Football Union paid for all of Bruney's travel expenses, Tikhonov criticizes
The Russian Football Union (RFU) paid for all of Brunei's travel expenses for a recent friendly match, according to RFU president Alexander Dyukov.
This has led to criticism from some, including former RFU president Vyacheslav Koloskov, who said that the RFU should have focused on providing better equipment for Russian youth football teams.
The RFU paid for Brunei's flights, accommodation, and meals, as well as the costs of their visas and medical insurance.
The match was played in Moscow on October 15 and ended in a 3-0 win for Russia.
Koloskov said that the RFU should have used the money to buy new kits and equipment for Russian youth teams.
"It is a shame that the RFU is spending money on foreign teams when our own youth teams are in need of support," Koloskov said.
The RFU has defended its decision, saying that the match was part of a wider strategy to develop football in Russia.
"This match was part of our plan to develop football in Russia and build relationships with other countries," Dyukov said.
"We believe that this match will help to promote football in Russia and inspire our young players."
The RFU has also said that it will continue to support Russian youth football teams.
"We are committed to developing football in Russia at all levels," Dyukov said.
"We will continue to invest in our youth teams and provide them with the support they need to succeed."
