The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) has announced the hosts for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. The qualifiers will be held in a single round-robin format, with each team playing each other once. The top four teams will qualify directly for the World Cup, while the fifth-placed team will advance to an intercontinental play-off.
The hosts for the qualifiers are:
- Uruguay
- Argentina
- Colombia
- Peru
- Brazil
The qualifiers will be played over two years, with the first matches scheduled for March 2023. The final matches will be played in October 2025.
Uruguay and Colombia Set For Exciting Clash
One of the most anticipated matches of the qualifiers will be the clash between Uruguay and Colombia. The two teams are ranked among the top 10 in the FIFA World Rankings and have a long history of rivalry.
Uruguay has won the World Cup twice, in 1930 and 1950. Colombia has never won the World Cup, but they have reached the quarter-finals twice, in 1990 and 2014.
The match between Uruguay and Colombia will be played in Montevideo, Uruguay, on March 26, 2023.
Peru To Host Chile In Crucial Qualifier
Another key match in the qualifiers will be the clash between Peru and Chile. The two teams are ranked 21st and 28th in the FIFA World Rankings, respectively, but they have a long history of rivalry.
Peru has won the Copa América twice, in 1939 and 1975. Chile has won the Copa América once, in 2015.
The match between Peru and Chile will be played in Lima, Peru, on March 29, 2023.
