Russian prosecutor general: 43 Ukrainian servicemen detained in Kherson region

Baku. 25 January. REPORT.AZ/ Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov said that 43 Ukrainian servicemen were detained in the Kherson region during a special operation.

"Forty-three servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were detained in the Kherson region during a special operation. They will be handed over to the investigative authorities for making a procedural decision," Krasnov said during a meeting with President Vladimir Putin.

Russian troops entered the southern Ukrainian Kherson region in the early days of the conflict as part of Moscow's "special military operation" to disarm Ukraine and defend Russian-speakers. Moscow claims to have annexed the region, along with three others, in September.

Ukraine and its allies denounced the annexation as illegal and have vowed to retake all occupied territory.

Krasnov also said that 300 foreign mercenaries have been killed in Ukraine since the start of the conflict.

"According to our information, more than 300 mercenaries from various countries have been destroyed and about 500 have left Ukraine. The rest continue to participate in the hostilities," Krasnov said.

The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation is investigating the activities of foreign mercenaries in Ukraine and has opened a criminal case on the recruitment of mercenaries outside Russia.
