Portugal thrash Poland 2-0 in Nations League match

Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes secure victory

Portugal produced a dominant display to beat Poland 2-0 in their Nations League match on Thursday. Cristiano Ronaldo scored a penalty and assisted Diogo Jota for the second goal, while Bruno Fernandes added a stunning long-range strike.

The win moves Portugal top of Group A3, while Poland remain bottom. The result also means that Portugal have now won their last four matches in all competitions.

Ronaldo opened the scoring from the spot in the 33rd minute after he was brought down by Poland goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. The penalty was Ronaldo's 118th goal for Portugal, moving him one ahead of Iran's Ali Daei as the all-time leading international goalscorer.

Jota doubled Portugal's lead just before half-time, firing home from close range after a cross from Ronaldo. The goal was Jota's first for Portugal since September 2020.

Fernandes sealed the victory with a stunning strike from outside the box in the 55th minute. The Manchester United midfielder received the ball from Ronaldo and unleashed a powerful shot that flew into the top corner.

Ronaldo continues to impress

Ronaldo was once again in impressive form for Portugal. The 37-year-old scored a penalty and assisted another goal, taking his tally to four goals in his last four matches.

Ronaldo's performance was all the more impressive considering that he had been struggling with a minor injury in the lead-up to the game.

With Ronaldo in this kind of form, Portugal will be confident of success in the Nations League and the World Cup later this year.

Poland's struggles continue

Poland have now lost their last three matches in all competitions, conceding eight goals in the process.

The defeat to Portugal was particularly disappointing for Poland, as they were playing at home and had a chance to move top of the group.

Poland will need to improve their form quickly if they want to avoid relegation from Group A3 and qualify for the Nations League finals.
