Lithuania Falls 2-1 to Cyprus in UEFA Nations League Clash
Disappointing Result for Lithuania as Cypriots Secure Victory
The Lithuania national football team suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Cyprus in their UEFA Nations League match on Tuesday.
Lithuania, ranked 138th in the FIFA World Rankings, had hoped to build on their 1-0 win over Luxembourg last week.
Cyprus Take Early Lead
However, it was Cyprus who started the match the brighter and took the lead after just 10 minutes.
Andreas Makris fired home from close range after a cross from the right.
Lithuania struggled to create clear-cut chances in the first half, and Cyprus doubled their lead just before the break.
Cyprus Extend Lead
Pieros Sotiriou headed home a corner to make it 2-0.
Lithuania came out with more purpose in the second half and pulled a goal back through Arvydas Novikovas.
However, despite some late pressure, they were unable to find an equalizer.
The defeat leaves Lithuania bottom of their UEFA Nations League group with one point from three matches.
Lithuania's Remaining Fixtures
They will be hoping to improve their results when they face Luxembourg away on September 22 and Cyprus at home on September 25.
