Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk Continues Cinderella Run
With the addition of former NHL star Nail Yakupov, many expected Neftekhimik to be competitive in the playoffs. However, few, if any, would have predicted a trip to the second round.
Neftekhimik finished the regular season in eight place in the Eastern Conference. However, they upset top-seeded Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the first round.
Now Neftekhimik will prepare to take on CSKA Moscow in the second round.
Avangard Omsk Through to the Second Round
Avangard Omsk did what most thought they would and advanced to the second round.
Omsk finished with the third-best record in the regular season.
In the first round, Avangard made quick work of HC Sibir Novosibirsk, winning 4-0.
Their second-round matchup is still to be determined.
