Ghana defeats Angola in thrilling AFCON opener
Ghana's Black Stars started their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Angola in Luanda on Sunday
Andre Ayew scored the only goal of the game in the 49th minute, heading in a cross from the right flank.
The Black Stars dominated possession and created several chances but were unable to extend their lead. Angola, ranked 131st in the world, defended resolutely and had a few chances of their own on the counterattack.
Ghana now has three points from two games in Group C, while Angola has one point.
In the other Group C match, Morocco defeated Madagascar 2-0.
Ghana will next play Tunisia on June 30, while Angola will play Madagascar on the same day.
