Fight of the Night: Groves Wins, Calls Out Canelo
The highly-anticipated grudge match between George Groves and Chris Eubank Jr. live up to the hype, with Groves emerging victorious by unanimous decision.
After 12 grueling rounds, the judges scored the bout 117-112, 116-112, and 115-113 in favor of Groves.
The victory extends Groves' unbeaten record to 28-0 and sets up a potential mega-fight with pound-for-pound king Canelo Alvarez.
Eubank Jr., who was fighting for the first time since losing his IBO super-middleweight title to Billy Joe Saunders in 2018, drops to 29-3 with the loss.
The fight was close throughout, with both men having their moments. Groves started the stronger of the two, but Eubank Jr. came on strong in the middle rounds.
However, Groves was able to regain control of the fight in the later rounds and ultimately did enough to win the decision.
After the fight, Groves called out Canelo, saying that he is ready to face the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
"I want Canelo next," Groves said. "I believe I'm the best super-middleweight in the world, and I want to prove it against the best."
Canelo is set to face Daniel Jacobs in a middleweight unification fight on May 4th. If he wins that fight, it is likely that he will face Groves later this year.
